Revelation 1: 1-8 Tim Anderson
When I was a sophomore in high school, a friend got me
hooked on reading western paperback books by Louis L’Amour. Often, the story would begin with a tall,
dark, mysterious man riding his horse into town at dusk. His face would be shadowed under his hat
brim, and folks would whisper as he went by - wondering who he was, and what he
was doing in their town? Usually, the
town’s residents would go out of their way to avoid this intimidating character,
but as time went on, the man usually turned out to be the hero of the
story. Throughout the book though, over
and over, people misunderstood the man, and misinterpreted his intentions.
In all honesty, the book of Revelation has been a lot like
that for me… mysterious, misinterpreted, misunderstood – even
intimidating. And like the people in the
dime store novels, I have (throughout my life) tended to avoid that which I
didn’t understand.
Whether you are a regular attendee or a visitor at Communitas
Church, everything has been orchestrated into an opportunity for us to come
into a better understanding of the book of Revelation. The great thing is, we already know that the book is about THE story, and its hero.
For most of my life, I’ve sought understanding in so many
different ways. Why would I treat an
important book of the Bible any differently?
It’s time to dig in and commit to weekly church attendance - and in the
event that I can’t make it, I need to make sure and catch up on the recording. I’m excited at the prospect at what God will
reveal to me personally, and to us, as a church.
